Good news is that the last two Torbay Express steam train rail tours this year are booked to be powered by the ever popular 60163 Tornado Class A1 locomotive. The dates are this coming Sunday September 4th and again on September 11th. It is due to pass through Dawlish on its way to Kingswear at 11.29am and return at 5.42pm. On it’s previous appearance the Dawlish Gazette confused it with the “Flying Scotsman” which has not been here for many years but it is the new locomotive that was built in 2008 which we have been lucky enough to see here many times since then.
Other news is that on this Saturday 3rd September we have two specials passing through. The first is a Northern Belle Pullman train which is diesel hauled from Birmingham to Penzance passing Dawlish at 9.34am and returning at 6.55pm. Last time a similar excursion was powered by two Class 68 diesels. Hopefully it will be this time as well.
The second special through is again powered by 46233 Duchess of Sutherland which has been on the Royal Duchy tours but this time it is a Cathedrals Express tour from London Paddington to Kingswear with the Duchess doing the portion from Bristol to Kingswear and then the return as far as Westbury. Dawlish times are 12.33pm and 6.05pm
