On Sunday night the Up Night Riviera service with 57604 Pendennis Castle the locomotive was halted at Hemerdon when the loco failed. The train was hauled back to Plymouth by a diesel shunter and the passengers were re located onto an HST to then go on to Paddington. Today 57603 Tintagel Castle was sent down from London to rescue the loco and coaching stock and take it back up to Paddington to provide tonight’s service to Penzance. However after a late start of almost an hour it only got as far as Marley tunnel near Ivybridge before coming to a stand for two hours causing long delays for the service trains following behind. It passed through Dawlish some three and a half hours late  with what sounded like a wheel flat judging by the thudding noise. It will be interesting to see if it makes it to London in time to provide what will be a late start for the sleeper service.

The video shows another close call for Nick as a down Voyager service passes just in time for him to take his video of the sleeper train.
